Sylvia Smith - Business Manager at
KBEC
Sylvia (AKA "Miss Ellie") came out
of retirement in 2002 to join KBEC at the urging of KBEC ownership.
Miss Ellie had made several appearances on KBEC serving as our official
historian, and was having fun as a frequent guest on Jeanne Moseley's
People & Places program.
So how did Sylvia Smith come to be known as
Miss Ellie? Actually, she came up with the idea.
"Ellie" representing Ellis County...of which she is a 5th
generation resident. We joke that if you live in Ellis County, you
either know Sylvia or you're related to her. If you've never heard
of her, that means you're new to town!
Ellis County is at the center of Miss
Ellie's heart. There's no one who can beat her volunteer record ....
serving as President of three non-profit boards and chairs several
committees. She represents KBEC on the Waxahachie Chamber of
Commerce Board as an advisor and is the official Ellis County Historical
Commissioner.
As Business Manager, her primary and
official duties include traffic and accounting. But in reality, Miss
Ellie is in charge of most everything at KBEC! Her "tell it
like it is" approach helps create a lively work environment, and
she's never shy about sharing her opinion on how things should operate
around the station. (Sometimes we actually listen to her).
She's the mom we all miss and the friend
we're glad to have. There is no one quite like Miss Ellie.
