Featured Artist Friday: August 24th
You've made it through another hectic week. It's time for another Featured Artist Friday!
We've got a great line up for KBEC fans today. We'll be starting out with a song from one of America's most well known groups, the Eagles! Don Henley, a native of Gilmer, Texas, co-wrote a song in 1976 called "New Kid in Town" with Glenn Fry and J.D. Souther to be the first single released for the epic Hotel California album. Many Eagles fans could tell you that the song shot up to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, but most don't realize that it also charted at #43 on the US Country charts. Next, we are featuring Vernon, Texas, native Roy Orbison's "Crying". The original release of this song was incredibly successful, charting at #2 on the Hot 100 in 1961, but the version we are adding is actually a duet with Canadian k.d. lang that was featured on the movie Hiding Out. It also climbed to #42 on the Country charts. We're going old-school for our third new entry for the week: Lefty Frizzell's "I Love You a Thousand Ways". This tune was one of the Corsicana, Texas, native's first releases and charted at #1 on the Country charts in 1950.
So, to recap for this week:
- "New Kid in Town" - The Eagles
- "Crying" - Roy Orbison with k.d. lang
- "I Love You a Thousand Ways" - Lefty Frizzell
