  13. Home on the Gulf Coast / Jerry Diaz & Hanna's Reef
  14. Sloop John B. / Jerry Jeff Walker

We've got "Gulf Coast Highway" starting off our show this week.  This great song is from Jim Morris's The Floating Opera from 2002.

John Frinzi is a Florida-based Trop Rocker who gave us "Where the Gulf Meets the Ocean" on his 2003 Into the Dawn.

We've got a few Larry Joe Taylor songs in the line up this week!  First will be "My Kinda Day on Padre" from his Port A to Port B.

You get not just one, but two great Mark Mulligan songs to kick of August!  "Just Came Down for the Weekend" is the from A Bar Down in Mexico and "This Old Beach Town" (which is new to our show!) is from Journey Around the Sun.

We've got several songs this week that have the same name, but different tunes.  This version "Gulf Coast Highway" is from Nanci Griffith and features Mac McAnally.

Bruce Hornsby and bluegrass maestro Ricky Skaggs joined forces to bring us "Gulf of Mexico Fishing Boat Blues" on their 2007 Ricky Skaggs & Bruce Hornsby record.

From his The Gulf of Mexico album comes this fantastic Todd Sparks tune, "(Lazy Haze) Florida Days".

Speaking of the Gulf of Mexico, we have three songs lined up that are called exactly that!  The first of these three songs comes from Larry Joe Taylor.  We promised we had more of him coming up!

The next "Gulf of Mexico" is from a new artist to our show, Shawn Mullins.  Check out his 1998 Soul's Core to find the original version of this song!

Our last version of "Gulf of Mexico" for the week comes from another new group on our show, Leftover Salmon.  The Colorado-based group put this track on their 2012 Aquatic Hitchhiker.

Now that we've got that out of the way, here are two of our favorite songs from Jerry Diaz & Hanna's Reef: "Port 'A' Saturday Night" and "Home on the Gulf Coast"!

We pulled "Sloop John B." from the excellent Cowboy Boots & Bathin' Suits CD.  Jerry Jeff Walker certainly knows how to make 'em!

That's the show for the week.  Join us on The Gulf Coast Cowboy Hour every Thursday evening at 7 PM CST, wherever you may be, for the best in Trop Rock and Gulf Coast music - only here on KBEC 1390!
