Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

A new scholarship has been formed to honor the life of a local educator, the late Dr. McMichael. An auction will be held on KBEC 1390 airwaves on May 19th to raise funds to benefit a 2012 WISD senior.

KBEC, in conjunction with the Waxahachie Independent School Districts Vocational department, is holding an on-air auction Saturday, May 19th, from 9:55 AM until all items are sold.  The proceeds of this auction will go to establish the Dr. Rocky Gene McMicheal Scholarship fund for graduating WISD vocational students.  All items have been made or donated by these high school students.

Dr. Rickey Gene McMichael passed away in his home April 1, 2012.  He was born in Jacksonville, Texas on January 13, 1948 to the late J. W. and Maurine McMichael. He was an educator at WISD for thirty years, and retired in 2000. In 1976, after his first five years in the district, he was named Administrator for Career and Technology Education. During his 25 years, he received many state and national awards including the Governor’s Excellence Award from Governor Ann Richards and the National JTPA President’s School to Work Initiative Award from President George Bush.

Among the items being auctioned off, you will find:

A full day of beauty treatments, consisting of a haircut, highlight and/or color, pedicure, manicure and a full facial, from the Waxahachie High School Cosmetology Department.

The Waxahachie Building Trades Department recently constructed a solid Mahogany table. This table has a round top that measures approximately 50” in diameter and is reinforced with ½” and ¾” Birch plywood. It has an octagonal pedestal-base with a hidden compartment built-in. The table is stained with “Minwax” Early-American stain and finished with three coats of Tung-oil. There is no “particle-board” in this table!

Students from the WISD Manufacturing cluster are putting the final touches on this 5’ X 8’ utility trailer. Single axle with springs made from 3x3 angle iron – 2 inch hitch.

Agriscience students constructed this 8' long heavy duty pine picnic table. It has a brown mahogany stain with SPAR varnish for UV and marine treatment.

Once again, the proceeds raised will go to benefit a 2012 WISD senior.  Be sure to join us Saturday Morning May 19th as we conduct the first Dr. Ricky Gene McMicheal auction honoring this 30 year WISD employee and the legacy he has left for the vocational students of WISD.
