Don Middlebrook: A Biography

Don Middlebrook and Living Soul bring us the Trop Rock sound from the west coast - the west coast of Michigan, that is!

A native of the cold north, Don reminds us that any coast can be home to the sounds of the sea.  What started out as a musical vacation turned into a lifestyle as Don and the crew began touring up and down the Michigan coastline in 1991.  Over twenty years, seven albums, and one stolen TV Guide later, the vacation is still going strong.

Don has opened for many famous musicians throughout the years, including the Doobie Brothers, Hall and Oates, Jefferson Starship, Meatloaf, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.  He also teamed up with Greg "Fingers" Taylor, the longtime harmonica player for Jimmy Buffett, and released two albums: Traveling Music and Changing Lanes.  He has also been featured on the national PBS series The Backstage in 2004 and has had original compositions featured in a Showtime movie.  He is also frequently a featured artist at the Common Ground and the Cheeseburger in Caseville music festivals in Michigan.

Don Middlebrook and Living Soul still perform over 150 shows annually throughout the United States, focusing on the Michigan area.  Their latest album, Talespin, was released in 2011.  You can read more about Don and Living Soul here at the official website.  You'll be able to catch some of his Trop Rock tunes here at KBEC 1390 as well - just be sure to tune in Wednesday evening at 7 for the Gulf Coast Cowboy Hour!
