Kelly McGuire: A Biography

Kelly McGuire started as an independent country artist here in Texas. He is now one of the most prominent names in the coastal music community.

Living near Galveston Bay, McGuire tours from coast to coast to coast and abroad in Mexico, Belize, and Canada.  He made his chops playing in the music industry, but did not start writing his own material until 15 years in.  He started getting recognition as a songwriter in 1997 when he won the "Songwriter of the Year" from the Fort Bend Songwriters Association.  In 2000, he released his first CD, Redfish Island, which sold out before the end of the year.  His second album, Club Blonde, was released in 2002 and the accolades rolled in like the tide.  The title track of the album charted in the top 20 in the Texas Music Charts and in the top 10 in the Indie Country Music Charts.  Another track from the album, "Wasted on the Young", cracked the top 10 in the Texas Music Charts, topped the Indie Country Music Charts, and won first place in the Austin Songwriters Group - Country Division - for 2002.

His next album, Boat in Belize, featured guest artists from Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band.  Released in late 2007, it was voted the Album of the Year by the Texas Music Awards in 2008.  He was also was nominated for Entertainer of the Year and Performer of the Year.  His most current album, King of the Island, debuted in January 2011.
